මිනිස් ජීවයේ බිහි දොර සේ සැලකෙන ස්ත්‍රී නිමිත්ත නැතිනම් යෝනිය(Vagina) සොබා දහමේ එක් විශ්මිත අපූරු නිර්මාණයක් සේ සලකන්නට පුළුවන්. ලෝක ජනගහනයෙන් අඩකටත් වඩා මේ අවයවය දැරුවත් තමාගේ සිරුරේ අවයව ගැන පැහැදිලි දැනුමක් බොහෝ කාන්තාවන්ටත් නොමැති වීම කණගාටුවට කරුණක්. Zoe Mendelson තරුණ ජනමාධ්‍යවේදිනියක්. Slate, WIRED, Print Magazine, Next City, Hyperallergic, Huffington Post, Fast Company, UntappedCities, TheDateReport, Nerve.com, Yahoo Travel, the LA Times ආදී ලොව ප්‍රකට සඟරා, වෙබ් අඩවි රැසක ලේඛිකාවක ලෙස කටයුතු කරන ඇය, තමන්ට පෞද්ගලිකව මතුවුණු ගැටළුවක් වැඩි දුර සොයා බැලීමේදී ඇතිවුණු සංකල්පයක් අනුව යෝනිය පිලිබඳ දැනුම සොයන්නන්ට නිවැරදි තොරතුරු ලබා ගැනීමට වෙබ් අඩවියක් සැකසීමට තීරණය කළා. ඒ අනුව තම මිතුරියක වූ María Conejo සමග එකතුව තවත් පිරිසකගේ සහයෙන් මේ “Pussypedia” නිර්මාණය කළා. ඉංග්‍රීසි සහ ස්පාඤ්ඤ යන භාෂා වලින් මේ වෙබ් අඩවිය නිර්මාණය කර තිබෙනවා. යෝනිය ආශ්‍රිත බොහෝ දෙනෙකුට විධිමත් දැනුමක් නැති යෝනියේ සැකැස්ම, ලිංගික ජීවිතය, සනීපාරක්ෂාව, ආර්තවය හා සම්බන්ද ගැටළු ආදී බොහෝ මාතෘකා ඔස්සේ දැනුම ගවේෂණයට තෝතැන්නක් වන “Pussypedia” කාන්තා මට ඔබට පමණක් නොව සිය විරුද්ධ ලිංගිකයා නිසි පරිදි වටහා ගැනීමට පුරුෂ පාර්ශවයට පවා ඉතා වැදගත් වෙබ් අඩවියක් ලෙස හඳුන්වන්නට හැකියි. මේ කොරෝනා ජරමර මැද වුණත් මෙහි නිර්මාතෘ Zoe Mendelson සම්බන්ද කරගෙන මේ “Pussypedia” ගැන වචන කීපයක් ඇයගෙන්ම දැන ගැනීමට Zest Girls අපට හැකි වුණා. මේ “Pussypedia” ගැන ඇගේ කතාවයි.

01) What is this Pussypedia? What were the objectives of its creation?

Pussypedia is a free, bilingual encyclopedia of the pussy* made for you to understand. Pussypedia aims to address the lack of quality, accessible information about our bodies on the internet. 

02) Whose idea is this project? Are there any special and interesting incidents that caused this concept?

One day I was arguing with my ex-boyfriend about whether or not all women can squirt. Like we do when we don’t know things, I googled it. The information I found was low quality. I was unsatisfied as a journalist. So I started reading medical journal articles. But I barely could understand them. I realized, it’s a huge problem that information about our bodies is so hard to access. I spent the night reading about my body learning things I wished I’d known forever. I called María in the morning and said, “let’s do a project about pussies!”

03) Can you please tell us about the founding members of Pussypedia and their roles?

María Conejo – Art Director – María commissioned all of the artwork, created the aesthetic of the site, created all of our icons. Zoe Mendelson – Editor in Chief – I coordinated volunteers, edited their work, and managed the building of the platform. Jackie Jahn – Content Consultant/ Fact Checker – Jackie designed our content map and our research and fact checking processes––and fact check the vast majority of the content! Michael Yap – Web Designer – Michael designed our website. 

Everything that doesn’t fall under any of those umbrellas, which is a lot, is work that María and I share. 

04) What are the most important milestones of this project?

Well, there was launch, July 1, 2019 which felt like having a baby I was 28 months pregnant with. Recently we hit one million unique page views. That was extremely exciting to me.

05) Do you have any special goals to achieve in 2020?

We do!! But we can’t say what it is yet. We will announce it soon. But be on the lookout 😉
